How the visit works

If repairs are needed, you receive a written estimate and decide what proceeds. Nothing is repaired without your approval.

Once the vehicle meets the standard, the Safety Standards Certificate is issued to you.
What a certificate is not
A Safety Standards Certificate is not a warranty, an extended guarantee, or a promise that nothing will need attention in the coming months. It records that the vehicle met the provincial standard at the time of inspection. If you want a broader mechanical opinion before buying, ask us about a pre-purchase inspection.

What is an Ontario Safety Standards Certificate?
It is a document issued by a licensed Motor Vehicle Inspection Station confirming that a vehicle met the minimum safety standards set by the Province of Ontario at the time it was inspected. It is not a warranty, and it does not certify mechanical condition beyond those standards.
When do I need one?
Most commonly when registering a used vehicle in your name after a private sale, when bringing a vehicle into Ontario from another province or country, when a rebuilt vehicle returns to the road, and when a rideshare platform requires a valid certificate for a qualifying vehicle.
How long is the certificate valid?
A Safety Standards Certificate is valid for 36 days from the date of inspection for the purpose of registering the vehicle. Confirm current provincial rules with ServiceOntario, since requirements can change.
What is inspected?
The provincial standard covers items including brakes, steering, suspension, tires and wheels, lighting and electrical, glass and mirrors, wipers and washers, exhaust, fuel system, coupling devices, and the body, frame and structural condition of the vehicle.
What happens if my vehicle does not pass?
We show you what did not meet the standard and quote the repair. You decide whether we carry out the work, and nothing is repaired without your approval. Once the vehicle meets the standard, the certificate can be issued.
Can you guarantee my vehicle will pass?
No. As a licensed inspection station we must record what we find. A certificate is issued only when the vehicle actually meets the standard.
Do you inspect vehicles for Uber and Lyft drivers?
Yes. Qualifying Ontario rideshare drivers need their vehicle inspected and a valid Safety Standards Certificate. We are an independent shop with no affiliation to either platform, so always confirm the current requirements in your driver app.
